Liquid Soap Dispenser, Best for those w/o Photoshop, etc. This is okay for non-graphics people, but probably a waste of money if you have Photoshop. And I'm a bit surprised by the absense of some basic control settings.
I bought this app on a whim (heck, only 99¢), after misunderstanding this app's capabilities. If you have Photoshop 5 or later, you can pretty much do everything this app does, but with a lot more control.
This app does not allow you to resize the movie (say you want to turn an animation into a small GIF avatar), and it gives zero control of GIF settings that can help make smaller files. It's really a one trick pony. If you want to be super-technical about my criticism, I'll say this app can help turn an image sequence into an animation, though I just use an older version of QuickTime to do that, then import the movie into PSD. This gives me TONS more control over the image and sequence after that. I was looking for an app with a simple interface so that I could take those few funny seconds from home videos and turn them into.gifs.
Since I'm not a video editing expert, this looked like a good place to start. I read the reviews first and was a bit skeptical, but figured that perhaps the other users were looking for something more advanced than me, so I bought it anyway. The first thing I noticed is that any video I import is seriously lacking in quality. When I play the video itself in QuickTime, it's a nice clear picture.
But when I import into the app and make my gif, the video quality is just awful. I attempted to go to their website for technical support but Safari can't connect to their server. Luckily, it was only 99 cents, so at least I didn't break the bank buying this app. In fact, I'm sure at some point in my life I've spent a dollar more foolishly than I did on this appbut nothing comes to mind. Use it to create animated gifs from a video or from a sequences of images. Various video and image file formats are suported.
The image size and frame rate are settable from within the app and you can preview your gifs before saving. You don't need a complex, expensive app like photoshop to create your image sequences. Just use your favorite drawing/painting app to make them, then use Gif Animator to put them together. I just used Autodesk's Graphic app to make individual frames for an animated gif from components I had created in Apple's Preview app. This animated gif turned out quite nicely. If I didn't already have the Graphic app I would have used Keynote to make each frame.
